Canva is a popular and easy-to-use design tool, and many customers use it to create artwork for printing. When used correctly, Canva can produce perfectly good print-ready files. However, most print problems we see with Canva artwork come down to export settings, sizing and image quality, rather than the design itself.

Start with the correct document size
When creating a design in Canva, it’s important to set the document size to the final finished size of the printed item from the start.
For example:
- A5 flyer: 148 × 210mm
- A4 poster: 210 × 297mm
- DL leaflet: 99 × 210mm
Avoid resizing designs after they’ve been created. Scaling artwork up or down can reduce image quality and affect layout and text positioning.
Allow for bleed and safe area
If your design includes colour or images that run to the edge of the page, bleed is required. Canva allows bleed to be added during export, but this option must be turned on manually.
At the same time, make sure important text, logos and contact details are kept away from the edges. Canva templates often place text very close to the edge, which can cause trimming issues in print.
Use high-quality images
Canva includes a large library of images that are suitable for print, but problems often arise when users upload their own images.
